Lighting up Luang Prabang

By now you’ll be used to our side-splitting posts full of sarcasm and wit but I’m afraid we’re going to have to break the cycle and make this one a bit sensible. It’s not that we’ve lost our humour, it’s just we can’t talk about terrible weather, chasing frogs out of bedrooms or how lucky we felt to not have stains on our sheets. This time we actually ended up somewhere super special.

After spending 2 days on a (very) slow boat heading up the Mekong river, we arrived in Luang Prabang. We had heard very little about the town and had no expectations of the place, so when we arrived in the sweetest town with a night market, loads of gorgeous candle-lit restaurants and bars, the river flowing on both sides, monks and temples on every corner and everyone moving about on bikes smiling and calling ‘sabadee’, we knew the place was special.

We won’t go into detail as pictures and videos say it all but we fell in love with Luang Prabang. We were there during a festival of light which was beyond magical (think of how amazing the Disney night parade was as a child and imagine that excitement as an adult). See for yourself and make sure you book a flight for this time next year (not that crazy an idea – warm weather, a truly magical festival and as many bistros and wine bars as you could hope for)

For a quick taste of the food stalls in the night market.

This is the festival of light that takes place over a few days (although the dawn ceremony of giving food to the monks happens every day on a smaller scale) and hopefully this captures some of its magic

Lots of Love,
Gem and Fran xxx
